"The art school on the edge of the world", (Guardian, 2019).
Based on the island of North Uist, our campus provides an opportunity to study Fine Art in the distinctive environment of the Outer Hebrides, on the west coast of Scotland.
We offer a BAhons in Fine Art and an NC in Art and Design. We have courses to suit all levels of experience, with full-time and part-time study options:
The BA (hons) Fine Art offers students the opportunity to explore a wide range of disciplines including painting, digital and analogue photography, drawing, printmaking and sculpture. Teaching is from experienced practitioners and with input from a vibrant programme of visiting artists and lecturers. The course supports students to develop an independent art practice within a strong community and international arts centre context.
The NC Art and Design course offers a diverse one-year program of study for students to develop a range of skills in art and design and to prepare a portfolio. This course includes units in drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, textiles, and much more. No formal experience is required and students can use this year to develop their skills in a supportive creative environment.
The unique relationship between the Art School and Taigh Chearsabhagh Museum and Arts Centre is central to the learning environment. There are many opportunities for students to engage first-hand with exhibitions and artist talks, cultural events and a common inclusive, creative ethos.
